| What We Believe 1) We believe that there is only one God, who exists in three persons: The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. 2) We believe that God created the world. It did not merely evolve through natural processes. 3) We believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. That He was put to death on a cross, buried, and raised from the dead after being dead three days. 4) We believe that all people, every human being that has ever existed is sinful from birth. We are all born into sin, which means that by nature we are all tempted to commit sins. This is true of everyone, from Hitler to Mother Theresa. 5) The only way to be saved and forgiven for the sin and guilt that we all share is through Jesus Christ. The reason He died and rose again was to save us. God is preparing a New Heaven and a New Earth that will be free from sin. The only way to secure a place there for yourself is through faith in Jesus Christ. There is NO OTHER means to salvation. 6) We read and study the Bible, which we believe is the Word of God. It reminds us of who Christ really is, namely God’s Son. It convicts and accuses us, reminding us of how sinful we are and how much we need Christ. It restores us and makes us spiritually alive with words of hope and promise for eternal salvation. The Word of God works on our hearts to produce faith in Jesus Christ. 7) We believe in Baptism in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Baptism is for people of all ages, giving faith and forgiveness of sins, which saves us from the devil and damnation. 8) We celebrate the Lord’s Supper (a.k.a. Communion or Eucharist) in which bread and wine are consecrated so that we receive the Body and Blood of Christ in, with, and under the bread and wine. Christ is truly present in this meal in His body and blood. By believing in Him and His promises our sins are forgiven in the Lord’s Supper. Want to know more?! Not only does God call us to believe in His son, Jesus Christ, he commands us to share that faith with the whole world. The Good News of salvation that Christ brings is for all people. All people, therefore, are welcome at St. John’s. We invite you not only to join us in worship, but also to become members of our church family. |
